La región de Zacatecas, célebre por sus minas de plata, experimentó desde finales del siglo XVII la renovación de sus actividades económicas. Este nuevo auge de la minería fue acompañado por una dinámica social de gran oportunidad: la del inmigrante español. Langue analiza las relaciones entre la coyuntura de la explotación minera y la evolución social, aportando nuevos datos sobre los poderes regionales y la estructura sociopolítica del México de la época.

La Cultura Chinchorro es una cultura de pescadores que partió habitando la costa del desierto de Atacama hace nueve mil años, y que alrededor del año 5000 a.C. comenzó a momificar intencionalmente a sus difuntos.
