Cachimbo es un cuento recreado con personajes reales. Adultos que nos dieron la oportunidad de ser felices, porque rodeados de ellos, fuimos felices. Conocimos la felicidad en una poca y sociedad de respeto, tradiciones y excelentes costumbres que esa generacin infantil dej atrs en lo ms profundo del campo cubano. En que los nios ramos pobres, pero alegres. No tenamos computadoras, vdeos, ni telfonos celulares, pero tenamos amigos ms valiosos que los tan cacareados medios electrnicos. Dominando todo el entorno de Cachimbo, est su personaje principal: Vitoria, un central azucarero sin cercas perimetrales ni custodios que impidieran la libre entrada a sus instalaciones. Y un excepcional propietario que ms que hacer dinero, se preocup por la belleza del entorno, la satisfaccin de sus obreros y el impacto medio ambiental de la gigantesca industria. Ese mundo es real. Al menos lo fue. Mi mensaje es para los adultos de ahora: Quiero que le transmitan a sus hijos que jams renunciemos a eso.
