In 1820 Andrea Carbayo wrote her memoir to record the adventures that led her to the place where she is, haunted by the intransigence of the inquisitor Valdés. Illustrated, intellectual, social gathering, writer, translator, teacher, feminist, Andrea herself was a forerunner in many aspects, without this preventing her from being erased from history, like so many other women in all times and places. In 2021, when 210 years have passed since the death of the Gijon minister and hero Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, the publication of this manuscript and the unexpected discovery of a secret daughter magnify the legend about such an illustrious character.
