¿Vale la pena ponerse hoy a hablar de la amistad? Dentro de un generalizado aprecio de ella y de la oportunidad de su tratamiento, algunos opinan que hoy no hay tiempo para la amistad porque es otro de los grandes valores (como la convivencia familiar o la conversación) que han sucumbido ya a la ofensiva invasora de la televisión, del turismo compulsivo de nuestros días y del apego al internet de nuestros días y de nuestras noches. Otros insisten en que sobre la amistad entre hombres o entre mujeres gravita hoy una brumosa sospecha debido al auge social de la homosexualidad. Los de más allá van lógicamente más lejos culpando del decaimiento actual de la amistad al pansexualismo reinante que no acierta a entender la limpia gratuidad amistosa, ajena a cualquier compensación de otro género. En todo caso, parece claro que procede rescatar el don de la amistad de las trampas y de las hipotecas de hoy. Luego hay que echar un cuarto a espadas a favor de la amistad. Hay que protegerla del riesgo de que pase por ser una mera antigualla.
