José de Ribera nació en Játiva (Valencia) y fue bautizado en aquella localidad el 17 de febrero de 1591. Hijo del sastre Simón Ribera y de su esposa Margarita Cucó, sus padres le enviaron a Valencia para que siguiera la carrera de Letras en aquella Universidad, pero su afición a las Bellas Artes le hizo cambiar los libros por los pinceles y asistir al taller de su paisano Francisco Ribalta (1565-1628). Ribalta abrió al joven Ribera el camino para llegar a convertirse en uno de nuestros mejores pintores.

An effort to determine the origin of the African slaves brought to the central region of Cuba through a linguistic study that analyzes the speech of practitioners of the Palo Monte Afro-Cuban religion which contains remnants of Bantu languages.

This volume sheds light upon one of the most emblematic constructions in Ibero-Romance: adverbial infinitives with specified subjects (e.g. al entrar Juan (Sp), para eles verem o resultado (Ptg)). The study attempts to fill an empirical gap and offers a cognitive-functional and comparative account on these constructions.
