Resumen del Libro

Una noche gélida de diciembre de 2005 muere en Canfranc un anciano oficial nazi, escondido bajo la falsa identidad de Germán Horno. Pero los enigmas de su azarosa vida han sido confiados la noche anterior, en secreto de confesión, al joven párroco de la localidad, el padre Guzmán, quien adquiere el compromiso de entregar determinados documentos... La especialista en arte para la policía científica Patricia Hernando se deslumbra al descubrir el botín que escondía la casa del anciano alemán, y no puede permanecer impasible ante la visión de un Vermeer de cuya existencia se ha dudado a lo largo de los siglos, y por el que siente una debilidad personal. Sin buscarlo, el padre Guzmán y la especialista Patricia Hernando se han situado en el ojo del huracán de un asunto pendiente de la historia europea. Y ahora saben demasiado para continuar viviendo tranquilos, porque la información a la que han tenido acceso es vivamente codiciada por grupos del poder económico, político y eclesiástico para los que puede ser muy comprometedora.
