La imágen sin límites

La Mirada (the gaze) presents nine outside their country almost unknown Latin American artist-photographers. The works of the last 20 years range from straight photography to the staged image. This title describes not only gaze of the camera directed towards a specific subject, but also the artistic attitude and mental approach of the nine artists and their diverse views on photography.

The charming town of Los Gatos is nestled at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is sometimes referred to as the Gem City of the Foothills. It has inspired hundreds of postcard images through the years, many reflecting the areas abundance of natural beauty. As the town and surrounding area grew and prospered through agriculture, logging, and commerce, the local architecture and landmarks became popular subjects. Glimpses of everyday lifechurches, schools, houses, and businessesfurther enhanced the pictorial history the postcards represent.

Los útiles y los inútiles invita al lector a un ejercicio: volver a ver películas conocidas y amadas tratando de dejar de lado la tan presente y tan ruidosa figura humana. Lo que queda en la panta¬lla es un amplio panorama de objetos, cosas, utensilios que sería reductivo catalogar bajo las categorías de mobiliario y de deco¬rado, puesto que su presencia en las películas parece dar forma a un verdadero dispositivo de visión, capaz de crear un pacto entre mundo, sujetos y representación.
