Las intendencias de la Nueva España

Catalogue of an exhibition organized within the framework of the celebrations for the Bicentennial of the Independence and the Centennial of the Revolution that explore how the national heroes were portrayed in art in the early 19th century. An interesting inclusion is the iconography of national heroes in relation to the sculptures of classic antiquity. The exhibition includes close to 110 pieces including sculptures, paintings, prints, photography, books, manuscripts and some magazines largely produced in the 19th Century in México and Europe.

In "La muerte de Artemio Cruz" we are present in the last moments of the lif e of a powerful man, one who was a revolutionary soldier, a lover without passion, and a father without a family. Carlos Fuentes reveals in this novel the thoughts of an elderly man who can no longer fend for himself; the man is confronted with an imminent and torturous death, but his will does not allow him to be defeated.

El tercer volumen de la colecci n en torno a Humboldt y el segundo descubrimiento est dedicado a la presencia del viajero prusiano en M xico y a la trascendencia posterior de esta experiencia. Los ensayos que aqu presentamos, y que inician con el diario que Humboldt redact en la capital de la Nueva Espa a, registran distintas dimensiones de esta experiencia y la influencia posterior que proyect sobre la intelectualidad mexicana.

A trav s de los ojos de Ant oco Cruces y Luis Campa, esta obra nos muestra una cr nica de la ciudad de M xico en el siglo XIX. Caminaremos por sus calles, conoceremos costumbres, veremos personajes y escucharemos los pregones de los vendedores que daban vida a la cotidianidad de la ciudad.
