Resumen del Libro

Guiados por el punto de vista del narrador compartimos la vida de su familia, una familia republicana de Asturias que con motivo de la Guerra Civil se enfrenta a una serie de acontecimientos que cambiarán el rumbo de sus vidas para siempre. Asistiremos al episodio de la huida, al de su enraizamiento en una tierra que no era la suya y en la que en ningún modo eran esperados, al de los sufrimientos provocados por la Ocupación alemana. Benjamín, el hermano mayor, destinado a permanecer en las almas de sus hermanos como el joven intrépido que no dudó en luchar por la libertad en el movimiento de resistencia organizado en Francia frente al ocupante, es el protagonista; ese hermano mayor “volatilizado” en medio de toda la tragedia humana vivida en Europa, una tragedia que concierne en primera persona a tantos españoles exiliados. Benjamín, su ausencia, la horma de su vacío vagando interminablemente por la vida de sus padres y hermanos.
