Resumen del Libro

Libro Modernización y modernismo en el arte mexicano

The present research study represents art historian Ramirez' reflections on the modernistic movement developed in Mexico in the early 20th century through detailed examination of diverse critical texts published in exhibition catalogues and other publications. The author analyses the protagonists, the institutions (particularly that of the National School of Fine Arts) and the visual expressions that represented the modernist alternative of Post Revolutionary Mexico. Some names mentioned include noted artists like: Jesús Contreras, Julio Ruela, German Gedovius, Gerardo Murillo (Dr. Atl), Roberto Montenegro, Ángel Zárraga, Saturnino Herrán, José Clemente Orozco and the pioneering artists José Guadalupe Posada and Casimiro Castro.
