En este texto se destaca la relevancia de las estructuras que determinan el sistema feudal europeo y la cosmovisión medieval, pues en su evolución se sitúan la expansión europea, el desarrollo del sistema capitalista y el surgimiento de la era renacentista, cuando el pensamiento adquiere una dimensión universal y la civilización se acoge a la modernidad. Maquiavelo, padre de la teoría del Estado moderno, Colón el descubridor y Cortés el conquistador, simbolizan algunos aspectos de este proceso; los dos últimos son, además, artífices del ingreso del nuevo mundo a la Era Moderna.
