Este segundo volumen de La historiografía chilena 1842 – 1970 presenta a los investigadores que se ocuparon de nuestra historia durante el siglo XX, específicamente entre los años 1920 y 1970. Este tomo destaca la diversificación de las temáticas estudiadas por esta rama de las ciencias sociales, el aumento explosivo de sus publicaciones y la influencia que ejercieron en ella corrientes contemporáneas como el hispanismo, el marxismo y la Escuela de los Annales.

Cuando en 1970 aparece nacionalismo y educacion de Josefina Zoraida Vazquez, una de las mas eruditas carreras que en la histiria ha dado Mexico y de las que ha gozado esta institucion por estar entre sus principales academicas, aparece claramente lo que despues vendria a ser un punto de partida en la investigacion historica. la busqueda de la unidad nacional por medio de la educacion.
