Resumen del Libro

La vitalidad de una lengua no s lo se mide por su cantidad de habitantes, sino tambi n por el n mero de mbitos en los cuales es capaz de rendir frutos cabales. Ciencia, tecnolog a, comercio, educaci n, literatura, finanzas y diplomacia, entre otros, son mbitos fundamentales que, de no ser abarcados adecuadamente, acarrean una incapacidad de designar el mundo contempor neo y una consecuente p rdida de prestigio que puede precipitar, a mediano o a largo plazo, un proceso de decadencia: los hablantes perciben su lengua como pobre, los ajenos a ella no ven utilidad alguna en aprenderla y entonces se repliega cada vez m s al hogar y al vecindario. De all que resulte clave, seg n el caso, abrir, retomar y apuntalar o ampliar los mbitos que cubren el espa ol, el portugu s y el franc s en las conferencias y los organismos internacionales, la edici n especializada, la documentaci n t cnica, las normas, la comunicaci n cient fica, Internet y los medios de comunicaci n especializados.
