Este libro hace un balance general de los estudios sobre Qumrán y muestra el progreso realizado en estos últimos años. En él colaboran miembros del equipo internacional de edición de los manuscritos y campos afines al mismo. La importancia de estos manuscritos radica en que permiten conocer el marco de relaciones entre "paganos, judíos y cristianos" en la época del cambio de era, cuando la cultura grecorromana y la cultura oriental entraron en contacto y el judaísmo y el cristianismo tomaron caminos divergentes a partir de una común tradición religiosa y cultural.
