La Mirada (the gaze) presents nine outside their country almost unknown Latin American artist-photographers. The works of the last 20 years range from straight photography to the staged image. This title describes not only gaze of the camera directed towards a specific subject, but also the artistic attitude and mental approach of the nine artists and their diverse views on photography.

Graphic designer López Castro presents a collection of photographs of street paintings of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a methodological documentation project of a distinctive Mexican folkart he started in 2002 and that culminated in the present book that includes the prologue of anthropologist Roger Bartra. Of the book the author states -"The Guadalupana is the virgin of the poor. That is why in this book I try to make it evident how each Mexican paints her as best as they can, as they need her or with the only purpose of having her present during their daily street walking."

Exploring the lifestyle of a lesser-known indigenous tribe, this photographic journey captures the daily lives of the Wayuu fishermen who live in northwestern Venezuela and northeastern Colombia on the Guajira Peninsula and are known as the Apalaanchi—“people of the beach.” Showing a group of people struggling to survive, the stunning images in this collection illustrate the culture of the Wayuu fishermen, detailing their traditions, views on mysticism, and their relationship with the sea that gives them a livelihood.
