Simpson refleja la contradictoria fascinacion y el asombro que produce en los extranjeros el pasado y el presente de Mexico, lo mismo en el terreno de la referencia abstracta que en el de la confrontacion con una realidad cotidiana en la que la historia reaparece siempre con renovada vigencia. Tal vez por eso el autor nos dice que su libro es una invitacion al lector a hacer con el un remunerador viaje al pasado de Mexico.
