Moneda y Nación. Del federalismo al centralismo económico en Colombia

A mediados del siglo XIX se puso en marcha en Colombia uno de los procesos de inversión extranjera más exitosos de América Latina, al menos desde la perspectiva de los inversionistas extranjeros: la construcción y puesta en funcionamiento del Panama Railroad Co. Esta línea férrea se convirtió en una vía estratégica para el comercio internacional, y puso a Panamá en el centro de las dinámicas políticas, sociales y económicas del mundo del siglo XIX. No obstante, creó parte de las condiciones para que eventualmente surgiera un reto serio a la soberanía nacional sobre el Istmo.
