Desde el decreto de expulsión en 1767 hasta nuestros días, los jesuitas reunieron numerosas explotaciones. La administración de dichos bienes y la enajenación de los mismos generaron el ramo de Bienes de Temporalidades que requirió atención administrativa, un equipo de personas a su cuidado, un presupuesto y espacios donde conservar el voluminoso archivo, que estuvo a punto de desaparecer para ahorrarse los gastos de custodia y conservación.
