Esta obra es el resultad académico de las X Jornadas concursales que han tenido lugar en Vitoria y que el presente año han sido objeto de una celebración especial por dos motivos, a saber, por haber sido un momento de reencuentro personal después de un largo periodo de tiempo especialmente difícil para todos y porque este año se cumplía el décimo aniversario de las mismas. La presente monografía constituye un estudio de naturaleza dogmática acerca de la instrucción en la esfera penal. El objeto central de la obra radica en profundizar en los fundamentos teóricos de la referida institución, trazando un repaso histórico de las concepciones fundamentales sostenidas en relación con el particular por la doctrina procesal española.
