Los Poemas de Francisco de Medrano se enclavan dentro de la Escuela de Salamanca y se componen de odas y sonetos de temática amorosa, elegíaca, y en algún caso ascética. Estos poemas están fluidos por Horacio. A diferencia de muchos de sus coetáneos, Medrano tiene un estilo alejado de los excesos del Barroco. Su lírica amorosa está dirigida a Flora, identificada como doña Inés de Quiñones, a Amaranta (María de Esquivel), a Amarilis, de quien se ignora el nombre, y a Catalina de Aguilar.
